After being closed for more than a year, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Dhaka-Narita direct flight has resumed. The government hopes that the resumption of this route will further strengthen investment, trade, education and public relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Dhaka-Narita route at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday night, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, MP, said that there is no question of closing this route in the future. I hope that this time the route will be profitable and bookings for the inaugural flight as well as the return and subsequent flights have already been completed. This has also created great enthusiasm among Bangladeshis living in Japan.
Speaking at the meet and greet event, the minister said, today’s Dhaka-Narita flight is the fruit of the collective efforts of all of us. I am very happy that the instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister can be implemented.
The minister further said that the launch of the Dhaka-Narita direct flight will further strengthen the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan and open up new horizons for economic and cooperation between the two countries.
At the event, State Minister for Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP said, “We have launched the flight keeping in mind the nearly 45,000 Bangladeshi students, workers and migrants living in Japan. To ensure that the flight is never stopped again, not only Boeing but also Airbus aircraft will be added to the fleet considering future needs.”
Recalling the contribution of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the state minister said, “Despite the shortage of aircraft in 1980, martyred President Ziaur Rahman launched the Dhaka-Narita flight to strengthen Japan-Bangladesh relations. Today, we have re-launched the flight for the general public on the instructions of Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.”
Then, the minister exchanged greetings with the Japan-bound passengers and inaugurated the flight by cutting the ribbon.
It is worth noting that during the interim government, direct Dhaka-Narita flights were stopped on July 1, 2025. This route was reopened after about a year. Today, July 27, at 2:25 am, Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 376 departed for Japan.
